+The Cabins+ Up-North Minnesota
The Cabins. A place up north in Minnesota where I've been going for my whole life. Growing up I kind of thought everyone had an old boy scout camp in the woods to go to with their family. Now I realize just how special this place really is. The air, the trees, the lodge, the lake, the memories, the quiet. One of those places where time just feels different and you drive away wishing you could stay a few more days.
This past summer my husband and I (and our puppy Copper!) road-tripped from Virginia up to Minnesota to spend the Fourth of July at The Cabins for the annual family festivities. I had just quit my job and bought a Canon 5d Mark iii and after much deliberation settled on a 24-70 2.8 as my starting lens. All these photos are taken with that lens, getting a feel for my new camera and hoping to capture a bit of the magic that is The Cabins.
“Any patch of sunlight in a wood will show you something about the sun which you could never get from reading books on astronomy. These pure and spontaneous pleasures are ‘patches of Godlight’ in the woods of our experience.”
