+Eustace the Dragon Band Photoshoot+

// I've always dreamt of doing a band photoshoot. And this November I had the chance to photograph one of my favorite bands- that also happen to be my super-talented friends in the band Eustace The Dragon. I'd describe them as being in the indie/folk persuasion although they definitely have a sound that is all their own. And they write such interesting, thought-provoking lyrics and their harmonies are off the charts!

For now you can find them on their Facebook and Bandcamp pages- and they have a new album set to drop later this year! I cannot.wait.

But I think the best way to hear them is live- if you can make it to one of their local shows around the Twin Cities in the Land of 10,000 Lakes

While you may be a long way from Minnesota, I can give y'all the next best thing: a little preview of one of their new songs, "Fall Like Men" as I was able to record them a bit during our photoshoot together. I feel like I've had this song in my head ever since hearing them perform it (and from watching the video over and over. and over.) I can't get over the beautiful lyrics and sweet harms! Please forgive my shaky first-time videography skills and give this a watch/listen! \\

Ok now that you've heard a taste of their music we can continue the blog post : )

Eustace The Dragon consists of Danny and Amanda Churchill and Jessica Arnold, some of the best folks you'll ever come across really. And I love how our paths crossed, even before they were a band: I met Jess waiting in line at a Sufjan Stevens concert. We were both superfans that got to the show ridiculously early and I knew I wanted to meet Jess as soon as I saw her standing there in line- wearing wings and holding a cake she had decorated to look like Sufjan's album art. And I thought I was a big fan. We hit it off right away and had a blast at the concert- we even got to meet Sufjan at the end of the show! We kept in touch and even ended up being roommates later on : )

Anyway although life has gone in different directions and I've moved away from Minnesota for a while now, we still keep in touch and I was so excited to be able to catch up and get a photoshoot together with these friends.

We began the photoshoot with brunch at Ward 6 and all ordered "The Disaster"- basically the best breakfast hash combo I've ever had with cheese curds atop it all. Places like this sure make me miss the Midwest.

After brunch we headed to Danny and Amanda's place on a lake, got some photos inside, brought the pump organ outside and snapped some outdoor pics at their house and at a nearby park.  We ended the shoot by building a campfire in their yard, playing songs around it and getting some portraits of Jess and Amanda.

Thanks Eustace for such a fun day and photo session! \\
